EDUCATION, MINISTRY & MISSION
This
Committee plays a vital role in Portmore United Church as all auxiliaries
fall under this com- mittee. As the name'Education for Ministry and Mission'
suggests its main aim is to educate, train and enable growth, effective
leadership and ministry to all age groups of the congregation and community.
The then Sunday School was started twenty-five years ago and is still
an integral part of our church's teaching programmes. The Adult Church
School started five years ago but much more emphasis and promotion is
needed for the members to be aware of the inavaluable lessons this has
to offer.
The E.M.M. committee plans a Family Week programme of activities each
year and this is usually well supported. The night services conducted
by this committee takes different forms such as seminars, talks on topical
issues, film shows and discussions.
The committee has seen the need for Lay Preachers within the congregation
and as such has sent members to be trained in that area of ministry. These
persons have proven to be a source of support for the leadership of the
church.
The Children's Ministry is another of the ventures of the committee and
in the past there have been two productions.
We believe in teaching both young and old not only what the church's doctrines
are, but more importantly to be witnesses for Christ. The committee intends
to begin a number of support groups for singles, divorcees, adolescents,
young as well as mature married people. With God's help the Children's
Ministry will be taken to higher heights and there will also be a greater
inte- gration between the auxiliary groups. E.M.M. salutes the church
on twenty-five years of ministry and continues to work under the guidance
of Almighty God. |
